Pruyn House Summer Art Program 2018

This year the CAL Summer Art Camp at the Pruyn House will be held June 25-28. There will be a choice of either a morning (9 to 11:30) or afternoon (12:30 to 3) session for $35. If you know any children completing grades 4, 5 or 6 at the end of this school year who would like to attend, now is the time to let

We had two groups (21 in each session) of young artists who, with the help of all of our amazing instructors, produced a lot of beautiful work

First of all - many, many thanks to our own Sue Lunow and Kevin Kuhne who handled the last day of camp with their excellent watercolor instruction. That was the most humid of all the days. So naturally we had a lot of rather soggy paintings to deal with when you combine humidity with the enthusiasm of the kiddos to use as much water and paint as they possibly could. 

And the same thanks go out to Laurel Petersen and Kevin for their work on the first day of camp with the introduction to bookmaking project. No, we were not teaching them how to win at the race track - this was real books done in the accordion style with wonderful images and stories. Laurel's son Brett was on hand to share his latest techniques which are an off-shoot of sequential art. The campers always love Brett and he is an excellent teacher.

We found a wonderful woman, Suzanne Crisafi, who taught the second day in Zentangle. She managed to keep the entire group under her spell and some incredibly beautiful work was done. Suzanne is a very gifted and multi-talented artist who has tons of great ideas. We could almost do an entire week of camp using just her!! She generously shared her time and talent on a volunteer basis. I encourage all of you to check out her Facebook page "Free to be Tangling" and you will be very impressed.

As always, we took on the "messy day" projects with "Paint Like Jackson Pollock" and alcohol inks on a variety of surfaces. In addition to the JP's, the campers left with five ink projects - a sun-catcher, a refrigerator magnet, a 4"x4" tile, a 5x7 framed and matted piece and a light switch cover. They love the alcohol ink!!

We had a wonderful camp this year with many talented, enthusiastic and very well-behaved children, and - beautiful weather before the week of blistering heat.
