The Local Color Art Gallery is a cooperative, managed entirely by Colonie Art League members so you will always find an artist to greet you and answer questions. There is no pressure to buy.
The gallery is sponsored by the Colonie Art League, Inc., a not-for-profit organization. The gallery has been called a "Jewel in the Capital District."
The gallery has seen many changes and wonderful additions since it's NEW MOVE to the Faddogan's Nursery property.
Before mentioning the changes that have taken place, I want to mention that the staff of the Local Color Art Gallery consists entirely of League volunteers. There are many members who make this Gallery a success. The members will admit they need a lot of volunteers to continue the success the gallery experiences today.
The Gallery is accessible for the handcapped. There is a special entry for wheelchairs or people with other disabilities such as crutches; it is all on one floor. It has a spacious museum-like viewing area. Once inside, you will find ample windows throughout the entire building that allows bright sunshine to bounce around. But besides the natural light, you will find plenty of high intensity and display lighting for viewing the paintings and 3-dimensional works.
The walls are especially formatted for hanging paintings professionally. As you will see in the photos of the "Interior" located on the next page [Inside the Gallery], there are enough spaces to allow variable sized paintings to be hung in a complimentary arrangement!
Our guests will find such a wonderful and unique variety of paintings and subject matters; and a new three-dimensional art and photography section has recently been added to the gallery. After all, we do have multi-talented members who work in all fine arts /mediums.
You can also discover fabulous paintings of local artists with a smaller price tag; some are framed and matted, some are not [but are protected], and there are many, many still life, seascapes, landscapes, etc.
FOR COLONIE ART LEAGUE MEMBERS: There is a spacious area with a large conference table and chairs. This area is used for informational sessions and "special" purchases. In addition, there is an office area where staff receive calls.
When you decide it is time to display your work [at the gallery], an informative session is scheduled. This session delves into what is important for you to know about your gallery space, painting display, finances, etc. This information can also be found in the gallery's brochure.
The Ann Gill Memorial Library, an "informational library" (available for Colonie Art League members) is filled with DVDs, CDs, VCRs and books for rental for all mediums. There is a Select Committee Chair of the Video and Book Library. This area is expanding constantly to accommodate the ever growing additions that members and WMHT have provided or donated. A listing of books is on an additional web page.
