Every year the Colonie Art League "gives back" to the community by supporting a scholarship award to two high school students. You will find one reason we are able to continuously support a program like this is through the efforts of Judy Haller D'Angelo, Scholarship Fund Chairperson, who sells 50/50 raffle tickets at our general meetings, shows and some events. This fund awards scholarship money to talented local high school students and sponsors the Pruyn House Children's Summer Program.
To further enhance the sales of the Scholarship Fund, a Second Chance Sweepstakes was formed. This second drawing allows a second person to have the opportunity to win a coveted prize. This prize is to display one piece of their art at the Local Color Gallery. [Must be a member]
Members have also donated a print, book, painting, supplies, or equipment to be used as a prize for the raffle.
Both of these league endeavors depend on your generous support. If you would like to give a meaningful gift to either or both of these funds, please mail a check to our treasurer, Val Mosier, c/o The Colonie Art league, PO Box 941, Latham, NY 12110. Indicate the purpose of your check when you send it.
This gift is a wonderful investment in the future of fine arts in our own backyard, and is highly valued.
I just wanted to let our CAL members know about the progress of one of our Scholarship recipients, Suzanne Geary. Her mother has been e-mailing me from time to time [since Suzanne started college in September] to inform me of her progress. This is the first time I have had a parent keep me updated with their child's progress in school and thought I would pass the information along to the rest of you. First, Suzanne's mother is very greatful for our "generous" scholarship award. Secondly, the scholarship money has enabled the purchase of all the costly art supplies she has had to buy, and lastly. . . she's doing quite well in her classes.
