CAL Member Library

The Colonie Art League's Art Book and Video Library

Your CAL library is one of the many benefits of being a CAL member. We are excited about our wide selection of books, videos, and DVDs. If you have never used the library, you will be surprised and pleased with the variety of interesting items waiting for you. Our new home for the CAL Library is in the basement of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 129 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY. We have plans to add a number of new books and DVDs and hope all members will take advantage of our library.

The library is open:  Wednesday and Thursday evenings: 6-9pm, Wednesdays 10am - 5pm and Thursday mornings: 9:30-12:30 pm.

To streamline borrowing and to reward frequent borrowers, we have a new policy. In the past, borrowers had to pay a $10 book deposit; and a $3 each or two for $5.00 non-refundable fee for each video or DVD rental. From now on, all Library
Patrons will pay an annual $15 Patron fee. That's it! Then you are free to borrow for two weeks at a time, as often as you like, with no further deposits or charges (except for overdue fees.)

The Library Patron fee runs at the same time as the CAL membership dues-from September through August.   However, members can become Library Patrons any time during the year.  Your Patron fee will be prorated for the balance of the year. To enroll as a Library Patron, you must complete the following form. This form does not appear on your membership or renewal application. Please mail the completed form with your check made out to CAL for $15 to:

Marcia Spada, PO Box 941
Latham NY 12110.

WHAT'S NEW!

New DVD additions are:

Deborah Secor's "Outdoor Shadows in Pastel".

Kevin McKesson's "Painting a Landscape from a Small Study", a 106- minute demonstration before a live audience of his outdoor oil painting techniques.

Donations of books and videos have been very active and always will be welcome.   Sometimes, as you can imagine, there are duplicates. In additon to the donation of books and videos, a television, video libraries/sets and VCR player were also donated.  Now, gallery receptionists and members may view videos at the gallery.  God bless you all for your generosity.

We have plenty of books and videos.  These books and videos were sorted into categories and topics by the librarian.  A listing will be online soon.

You can't go wrong with "any" knowledge.

Books require a $10. deposit, which you get back when you return the book at the end of the month.

Please don't forget to donate any of your art books.  Your donations are tax deductible up to the amount of the new or used book.

Videos are $3. per video for two [2] week's rental.

Members who are recovering from illness or surgery may borrow up to five [5] videos free of charge.

The library is growing by leaps and bounds. . . and for good reason.  Rental of an art instruction video is invaluable for the artist who wants to learn, needs to see what the teacher is doing, and desires a comfortable stay-at-home atmosphere while experiencing new techniques.

WMHT has recognized the Colonie Art League in so many beneficial ways and has promoted us through their annual art auctions.  Besides that great and worthy deed, they have donated an entire collection of oil painter, Helen Van Wyk's "Welcome to My Studio" videos for our library.  They have also donated the series entitled "Around The World" of watercolorist, Frank Clarke.
